How Can Aloe Vera Solve Your Skin Problems?

Aloe vera is often thought of as a ‘wonder plant’ with all sorts of health-giving properties. We asked the experts from Atlantia for their take on its skincare applications

• What are the common causes of dry and problem skin?
Cold weather, dry air, exposure to harsh chemicals, unbalanced skin pH, skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis are the most common causes of dry and problem skin, but also, stress situations such as the recent pandemic we are living can cause an increase in a hormone called cortisol, responsible for inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, acne and allergies.

Also the prolonged use of masks can generate an imbalance in the skin microbiota that causes different skin problems such as acne, rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis

• What is aloe and how is it derived?
Pure aloe vera juice is extracted directly from the leaves of the aloe vera plant, native to Africa and which also grows naturally in the Canary Islands. To guarantee the optimal conservation of its active ingredients it must be cold processed and stabilised, but the truth is that very few products in the market process it like that and preserve the original properties of the plant.

• What are the active components in aloe?

Aloe vera contains 75 potentially active constituents. It contains a high concentration of polysaccharides (acemannan), vitamins, enzymes, minerals, sugars, lignin, saponins, salicylic acids and amino acids. Vitamins: It contains vitamins A (beta-carotene), C and E, which are antioxidants. It also contains vitamin B12, folic acid, and choline.

• Where does Atlantia source its aloe?
Atlantia products are made of the best selection of organic Aloe vera from the Canary Islands, which according to numerous scientific studies has a higher concentration of active components than those grown in other regions due to the exceptional climate, along with the volcanic soil of the islands.

Our Aloe vera is 100% pure, not from concentrate, that means with no added water. It is important to point this out because Aloe products made from concentrate degrade its active properties in the extraction process and most of the products in the market are made of Aloe powder or concentrate. Our Aloe vera is cold processed and stabilised, guaranteeing the optimal conservation of its active ingredients.
