Effective home insulation is essential for improving heating efficiency and cutting costs. We asked the experts from Cisco how their Spray Foam solution can help
What is the importance of good insulation in your home?
A quarter of heat is lost through the roof in an uninsulated home. Insulating your loft, attic or flat roof is an effective way to reduce heat loss and reduce your heating bills. The Spray Foam will seal air within the property and help prevent heat loss; this will make it cheaper to warm your home in the winter.
What is spray foam and how is it applied?
Applied as a liquid, ENERTITE® expands rapidly to many times its original size. ENERTITE® is a particularly lightweight spray foam which is suitable for the interior insulation of walls and attics. ENERTITE® easily flows in and around difficult to reach areas such as pipes and wiring, creating a seamless seal and completely filling wall cavities.
Unlike BASF’s closed-cell Elastospray® systems, ENERTITE® is an open-cell polyurethane foam. Although ENERTITE® also forms an airtight, thermal bridge-free insulation layer with no joints or gaps, its open-cell structure makes it permeable to water vapour.
How long does it take to apply?
A typical installation takes place in 1-2 days. The first day the team will prep the roof, this may include adding in a vapour control layer inside of the customer’s bitumen felt, the purpose of which is to allow an exit route for unwanted condensation.
The customer may have also requested to have old insulation removed or like most have a particularly well packed roof with belongings – it may in some instances be best to bring these down to allow the team to work safely in the loft area, this will be replaced on completion of spraying.
Day 2 is Spraying and again depending on size and ease of access this is normally completed in one day.
What are its cost benefits?
When you insulate with ENERTITE®, you are choosing an affordable solution for improved energy-efficiency, increased living comfort and effective sound control with high environmental compatibility.
How long does it last?
Once installed Spray Foam will last the lifetime of the roof
Is it safe?
At Cisco, we proudly can say our eco-friendly Spray Foam does not contain any toxic or harmful components. Cisco Homes Ltd. recommends and uses spray polyurethane foam (SPF). Their new generation of sprays (including Entertite® and Elastospray® LWP) use either hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs) or water as a propellant. These methods are ozone-friendly and have an extremely low global warming potential (GWP). Once applied the foam is inert and harmless.
We use extraction fans whilst Spraying and the crews will be wearing an air fed mask. This is to protect them from fine particles not visible to the human eye whilst spraying. Allowing time (approx 2 hours) for the particles to settle on completion is recommended before entering the loft space. The team will have taken plenty of pictures before and after for you to see the results from the work completed.
What are GWP and ODP and how do they apply to spray foam?
The system has a very low GWP (Global Warming Potential) and zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential).
How does spray foam compare to other forms of insulation?
See the below table for a comparison of the qualities of spray foam with other insulation solutions such as fibre glass and blown cellulose.
