The Queen has tested positive for coronavirus, Buckingham Palace have announced.
The monarch, aged 95, is said to be experiencing “mild cold-like symptoms” according to the palace, however, have stated that she will continue with her “light duties” this week.
“She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all the appropriate guidelines,” the statement continued.
It is believed a number of people within Windsor Castle have tested positive for the virus, but it is also believed that the monarch has been triple vaccinated, with the first vaccine being administered to her in January 2021.
An example of the light duties she will be getting on with was shown on Sunday when she released a message to Team GB’s men and women curling team congratulating them on their success in the 2022 Winter Olympics after they came away with a gold and silver medal.
This announcement comes during a very significant year for the longest serving monarch as she and the rest of the UK celebrates her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne.
The Royal Household has its own royal physicians and the Queen’s doctors will be at the ready to monitor the health of the monarch.
Messages
Various messages of support have been pouring out for the Queen with leader across the world wishing the monarch a quick recovery. Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted: “I’m sure I speak for everyone in wishing Her Majesty The Queen a swift recovery from COVID and a rapid return to vibrant good health.”
The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, said: “My thoughts, and the thoughts of millions of Canadians, are with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II today. We’re wishing her a fast and full recovery from COVID-19.”
Many Britons echoed the message.
She is not the only royal who has caught the virus in recent weeks, as both Prince Charles and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall also tested positive for COVID-19, with Prince Charles catching the virus for the second time.
