There are always lots of questions to be asked when it comes to lactose intolerance and the LactoFREE concept, and it’s very easy to get confused about what advice it’s important to follow. So to clear up any confusion and to help you better understand, we’ve filtered through the facts. In this article, we’ve included the essential information about lactose and how we keep our products tasting delicious without it.
So let’s start with the basics…
What is lactose?
Lactose is the natural sugar in milk and other dairy products. Lactose is a disaccharide (sugar) made up from two smaller sugar molecules called glucose and galactose.
What is lactose intolerance?
Lactose intolerance is a condition where your body can no longer split lactose into single units (glucose and galactose) — this makes it harder for your intestine to absorb and digest. A common side effect to being lactose intolerant is gastrointestinal discomfort.
Each individual has a different level of intolerance to lactose, so the side effects may vary. However, if you find that you’re experiencing gastrointestinal discomfort after consuming foods that contain lactose, then you may benefit from switching to LactoFREE products**.
