What a Carry On! The Best and Worst of the Movies
Carry On Screaming! (1966)
A hilarious parody of Hammer horror movies, with Harry H. Corbett in his only Carry On role as downtrodden Detective Sergeant Sidney Bung, Fenella Fielding as the steamily sensual Valeria Watt and Kenneth Williams in fine form as mad scientist Dr Orlando Watt.
Best moment: Dr Watt disappearing into a vat of horrible chemicals with a last cry of ‘Frying tonight!’
Carry On Cleo (1964)
Using costumes and sets originally intended for mega-epic Cleopatra made this the best-looking of the series. Amanda Barrie is a seductive Queen of the Nile, Sid James plays a randy Mark Antony, and Kenneth Williams is the campest Julius Caesar in cinema. Certainly he gets the best line – possibly the best in British comedy – “Infamy, infamy, they’ve all got it in for me!”
