Good Hair and the Importance of Nutrition

What are the causes of hair thinning and are there natural solutions? We ask the experts from Kansha Alchemy

• What are the common causes of hair thinning?

• Androgenic alopecia is the most common type of hair thinning, also called Male Pattern Baldness, which women are getting more and more, and is generally a sign of an imbalance in the body. This usually is a disruption in the digestion and microbiome that causes the testosterone to produce too much DHT which is the main cause of thinning hair.

• Is hereditary hair loss unavoidable?

• I believe hereditary hair loss is avoidable as it is often the microbiome and the sensitivity to DHT you inherit and the hair loss follows on from this. If you can break that link, with diet adjustments, a super healthy lifestyle and scalp massage, I do believe there is a lot you can do a lot to reduce and or prevent hair loss in this way.

• Is the hair a ‘dead’ tissue?

In pure biological terms yes it is dead tissue, but it also holds part of the body’s ‘electrical’ charge. I love the story of the native Americans conscripted to the army for the Vietnam war as they were such good trackers. Once they go their regulation buzz cut, they lost their tracking skills and eventually, they were the only soldiers allowed to keep their hair long. In this way, I believe we should look after our hair in a more sensitive or ritualistic way, which may sound ridiculous, but once you’ve nearly lost your hair, when it returns, you don’t mind giving it some love.

• What lifestyle changes should we all make to promote healthier hair growth?

• I think the Victorians were on to something when they brushed their hair x100 times a night, but they were using a wild boar bristle brush. These brushes help draw the natural oils from the scalp, down the hair shaft, which doesn’t happen with a nylon brush. I’ve encouraged so many people to do this and they have all reported back at how glossy their hair became and how volumous it felt afterwards. It really is nature’s own conditioner, but it does take a lot of effort, sectioning the hair and brushing the hair against growth and then back again the right way. I also believe we should all use a scalp or root conditioner as the healthier your scalp, the better your hair. And if you can massage your scalp too, your hair will love you! All of these take a bit of effort but they really do pay dividends.

• Can a green diet improve the condition of my hair?

• One of the benefits of a green diet is what it does for the digestive tract, the microbiome and therefore assimilation of nutrients, apart from being jam-packed with super smart ingredients. Juicing vegetables gets the goodness into useable format for your body far quicker than eating, so the body receives a real boost with every drink.

• What is the aim of Kansha’s Good Hair supplement?

• Good Hair doesn’t just provide extra nutrition for the hair, it is designed to help block DHT which is the main cause of hair thinning, it also helps prevent excess hair shedding which is vital for the volume of hair. Good Hair is a vegan formulation with absolutely no synthetic fillers or bulking agents as I felt this was just another hindrance to getting supplements to work effectively and I was adamant that this would work at optimum power.

• What are the ingredients?

• Good Hair is a complex of herbs, minerals, vitamins and amino acids (which help the body metabolise protein). It has all the key vitamins, so you could use it as a premium multi-vitamin, plus a high dose of the ‘hair vitamin’, Biotin. The mineral content is key to producing healthy hair with silica, magnesium, iron and zinc. Plus a few herbs such as Saw Palmetto, Nettle and Green Tea are well known for their effect on preventing hair loss, blocking DHT and bringing the body back into balance. So Good Hair covers all bases with a multi-layered approach to treating hair thinning.

• What’s the story behind Kansha Alchemy?

• I worked in the beauty industry for over 30 years so when my own hair started to get thin, I went straight to the top experts on Harley Street, but I was shocked that after a very expensive consultation and less than a minute looking at my hair, they sent me away with a product I could have bought off the shelf that says on the back of the pack that it only works in 40% of cases. I knew there was a better way and when I met up with my business partner who had lost her hair through chemo, we decided to do something about it and went to America to research their formulas. I was studying alternative medicine at the time, so I blended my studies with what we both learnt in the USA and Good Hair was born – although it is on its third formula adjustment here.

• What does kansha mean?

• In all of my research, I was taken by the idea that happiness is part of being healthy and I love the concept of gratitude and being happy with what you already have. It’s so simple but an effective tool for life, so Kansha is the Japanese word for gratitude, but not just ‘thank you’, the whole idea of being grateful and seeing the good side in things.

• Where can I find out more about Kansha Alchemy products?

• Our website is https://kanshaalchemy.co.uk and I’ve written an eBook with more details about why these small changes, massaging your scalp, drinking green juices etc can help regrow your hair.
