Moon-influenced dieting can damage your health

A diet advice book, to be published later this year, has been criticised by an obesity specialist

In Tune with the Moon 2011: the complete day-by-day moon planner for growing and living in 2011, by Michel Gros, argues that the moon’s influence extends beyond affecting tides to also affecting a human’s health and wellbeing.

However, Penelope Howard, obesity specialist and founder of Howard’s Way very low calorie diet (VLCD), has commented that the book will not help people lose weight, ‘If you have a few stones in weight that you want to shift, postponing starting a diet could be all the disincentive you need, never to begin!’

Amongst other things, the book advises that the best time for tackling a bad habit is one week before the New Moon appears.

Howard has responded by saying that delaying a diet when you are obese could be seriously damaging to your health.

‘As fun as these types of diets can be, it’s important to sound a note of caution: don’t be unduly influenced by these arguments.’
