Adding Value and Kerb Appeal to Your Home with a Resin Bound Driveway

You may have heard of the resin bound driveway system without knowing about its advantages and how it can add value to your property. We asked the experts from SureSet to explain

What are the components of a resin bound driveway?

A choice of aggregate and a high quality clear resin binder that delivers a surface that is smooth, durable and needs very little maintenance; sweeping and occasional power washing to avoid the build-up of debris and prevent the growth of moss or algae.

How is it installed?

The low energy material is mixed cold on-site usually with our resin batching machine known as the EcoBatcher and floated by skilled installers. During the laying process minute voids are created that mimic natural drainage, allowing water to pass through.

Can a resin bound driveway be laid over existing asphalt or concrete?

Yes, we install existing surfaces that are in good condition, seek advice from the SureSet team if unsure.

What choices of materials and colours are available?

We have kept variation in mind, with a material range of natural aggregate, crushed stone, marbles and recycled glass and a large colour palette including buffs, browns and greys to vibrant yellows and pinks, there are no limits with the ability to create your own bespoke blends of colour.

What is SUDS and are resin bound driveways compliant?

SuDS (Sustainable urban Drainage Systems): an approach to water management introduced by the Environment Agency in 2011 to help manage flood risk and water quality. Due to the permeability of the product, SureSet resin bound paving is compliant with SuDS (Sustainable urban Drainage System), even when applied to an impermeable base the water can be harvested or discharged into existing drains or soak-aways. Even when applied to a conventional base, the permeability of SureSet resin bound paving allows water to be harvested or discharged into drains or soak-away.

Do I need planning permission to lay a resin bound driveway?

Since government legislation in 2008, planning permission is not required for areas less than 5m² or if the new surface is permeable.

How much maintenance does a resin bound driveway need?

There’s no loose stone with SureSet resin bound gravel making it easy to look after. Regular sweeping and occasional power washing will keep it looking fresh.
