Concrete, block and natural stone pavings all need sealing for maximum durability. Drew Palin from Adseal tells us more
• What are the benefits to sealing Concrete, Block and Natural stone?
Any type of paving from block paving to limestone will be one of the most expensive purchases of your life – you wouldn’t get hardwood doors and windows and never stain them, you wouldn’t buy a new car and never wax it. The same applies to your paving.
Vehicles driving on the paving, walking on it and even the weather will damage your paving. Applying a sealer will protect your investment from day-to-day wear and tear, as well as stopping weeds from coming through and stopping fluids from staining the paving.
• What range of sealers are available?
At Adseal we offer a full range of sealers for concrete surfaces like block paving and imprinted concrete and natural stone like limestone and sandstone.
Our sealers come in a range of finishes from Invisible to High Gloss.
• What sealer is best to use?
This is a question we get asked a lot. It is a common misconception that Polyurethane is the best you can use. Any honest manufacturer of sealers will tell you that it all depends – a high-quality acrylic sealer will outperform a low-quality Polyurethane such as you find on a well know auction site.
There are pros and cons for each type of sealer.
It depends on what you are looking for from the sealer as to which will be best for your needs. Please feel free to contact us to discuss your needs, alternatively visit our website www.adseal.co.uk for more information.
• How do I colour or stain concrete?
Using the Newlook colour stains is a fairly easy process, but the application differs depending on the product you are using. Please check out the videos section of www.adsealcolours.co.uk for how to videos.
• Is concrete staining safe?
Yes, 100%. The Newlook colour stains we sell are water based so offer no danger to people, animals or the environment.
• How predictable is the colour of concrete staining?
As our stains are water based, they are completely predictable. Traditional acid stains react with the lime in the concrete and form the colour due to a chemical reaction which can give unpredictable finish. Our stains have no such reaction and as such are 99.9% the same as the colour chart (the colour of the concrete can have a small effect on the finished colour)
• Do I need to seal stained concrete surface?
Again, this depends on the product being used. The Endura Solid Stain does not require sealing as it contains sealing elements; however if using the Faux fusion or Smartcolour you will need to apply a sealer once the stain has fully cured (24 hours).
• What’s the story behind Adseal?
Adseal was started by my father and myself in 2003; for five years before this we owned a driveway installation business. As part of the installation we would seal the paving. We worked with a manufacturer in Kent to develop our sealers, and when the owner of this company moved to France, my father bought the company from him and we began manufacturing the sealer for ourselves.
Since then, we have prided ourselves in offering the best quality sealers at the best value for money as well as unrivalled technical knowledge and customer service.
