‘THANKS A MILLION’, NHS and Emergency Service Workers

In July 2017, Optical Express launched its campaign to say ‘Thanks a Million’ to NHS and emergency service workers in the UK, pledging to give away £1 million of laser eye surgery.

The initiative followed a national survey1, which discovered that many people don’t feel appreciated in work. In fact, the survey found that 16 percent of British workers have never been thanked for their hard work.

While a ‘thank you’ costs nothing, one in five employees hear the phrase just once a month at work, while one in seven has never heard it at all, according to the study.

This simple act of appreciation can go a long way, and the survey found that people who dedicate their lives to public service ‘are most deserving of our thanks’.

Dawn Kondol, head of HR at Optical Express, said: ‘Employers could be forgiven for believing remuneration is their way of showing appreciation, but over a quarter said they expect to be thanked in order to feel motivated, yet rarely hear those two words.

‘Overwhelmingly, the British public thinks nurses deserve the most thanks, with firefighters and doctors coming a close second and third. The ‘Thanks a Million’ initiative goes some way in showing Britain’s appreciation and gives back to those who serve us so selflessly.’

Those who lead active lives, like our dedicated NHS and emergency service workers, find glasses and contact lenses a real hassle. These unsung heroes therefore benefit massively from laser eye surgery, which can help liberate them in their work.

Over 99 percent of Optical Express patients2 achieve 20/20 vision or better3 after treatment and 100 percent of patients achieve driving standard or better. Just like them, the patients who have benefitted from the campaign are discovering the joy and freedom that laser eye surgery brings.

Many delighted patients have said that choosing to have laser eye surgery was one of the best decisions they’d ever made, and they wished they’d decided to have treatment earlier.

Georgia Lee, an NHS mental health nurse from Lancaster, was one of the lucky people selected. ‘When I found out that I’d been successful with Optical Express to have the opportunity to have laser eye surgery, I was really over the moon.

‘You discover contact lenses, and you think you’ve found your answer. It’s when you have laser eye surgery that you realise how much discomfort and awkwardness you’ve gone through for so many years.

‘The impact laser eye surgery has had on my work and home life is really significant. It’s made a huge difference in all areas and my self-esteem and confidence has rocketed. I can work on a computer screen for however many hours I need to without getting headaches and without having to take my glasses on and off.

‘It is life-changing. If you’re looking into it, it is definitely something that you should follow through,’ she said.

Optical Express is continuing to treat the lucky ‘Thanks a Million’ patients until the end of the year.
