The British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) aims to help better inform people about the ancient practice of traditional acupuncture. With 2.3 million acupuncture treatments carried out each year, acupuncture is one of the most popular complementary therapies practised in the UK today. Yet despite its widely recognised health benefits many people only discover acupuncture as a last resort.
Acupuncture treatment is widely considered to be beneficial for a range of symptoms resulting from illness or from clearly defined complaints, or to improve general feelings of wellbeing and help with relaxation.
The BAcC is the UK’s largest professional/self-regulatory body for the practice of traditional acupuncture. In 2013 it was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care under its Assured Voluntary Register Scheme. It was formed both to support their members and to supervise members for the benefit and protection of the public.
In order to be registered and insured by the BAcC, acupuncturists have to complete degree-level qualifications and adhere to codes of safe practice and professional conduct.
