- Why is it important for landlords to have specialist insurance?
Renting a property out comes with its own unique risks that you wouldn’t associate with general home insurance, it is important to make sure you have the appropriate cover in place to protect not only your property but also your liability to your tenants and the financial aspects of any rental income you receive.
- What is covered as standard by SAGIC landlord insurance?
SAGIC’s insurance provide the same cover as you would expect for all standard landlord’s insurance, there are a number of specified insurance perils providing cover for your property from external damage including fire, flood, escape of water and subsidence cover. With all of our policies liability cover is include protecting you against claims if your tenants are injured and you are found at fault.
- Can I get cover for alternative accommodation or loss of rent?
Our policy offers cover for alternative accommodation or loss of rent up to a maximum limit of 20% of your buildings sums insured.
- Does contents cover include gardens?
The contents element of the policy will cover loss or damage to the contents of your property including in the garden and in garages. Storm damage caused to gates, fences or tennis courts is excluded. The maximum amount available for loss or damage to contents in the garden is £1,000.
- Is accidental damage cover available?
Yes, this is an optional extra on all SAGIC policies which you can decide to include if required.
- Do I pay any additional fees, for instance for credit card payment?
There are no additional fees when purchasing insurance through SAGIC. As standard, we do not charge any amendment, cancelation or credit card fees. Our Monthly Direct Debit payment option is split over 10 months with no premium finance applicable.
- Can Salvation Army affiliates get discounts from SAGIC?
Yes. As a member or employee of The Salvation Army, you are eligible for a 20% discount on our Landlords, Home and Contents insurance policies.
- What do I do if I need to make a claim?
In the event of a claim, you would contact our office on 0300 030 1865. Opening hours are 9 am – 5 pm Monday – Friday.
Outside these hours, please email claims@sagic.co.uk. You can access a 24-hour Emergency Helpline on the same number.
