
Ray Liotta
Actor Ray Liotta may never have been a superstar, but with the likes of Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro and Kevin Costner leading the tributes to the gifted actor, he certainly made a mark in movies from Goodfellas, in which he played real-life gangster Henry Hill, to Field Of Dreams, Blow, Narc, and The Rat Pack, in which he played Frank Sinatra.
His last projects included Sopranos prequel The Many Saints Of Newark, and an Apple series, Black Bird, which was released after his death.
Ray Liotta passed away in his sleep aged 67 while shooting the movie Dangerous Waters in the Dominican Republic.
Pelé
Brazilian football legend Pelé died at the age of 82 on 29th December. Often rated a the greatest footballer of all time, he was the only man to have been in three World Cup winning teams.
Born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, Pelé started playing for home club Santos at the age of 15, and for the national team at 16. Pelé was the joint-top goalscorer for Brazil with 77 goals in 92 games. At the club level, he was Santos’s all-time top goalscorer with 643 goals in 659 games. According to Franz Beckenbauer, West Germany’s 1974 World Cup-winning captain: “Pelé is the greatest player of all time. He reigned supreme for 20 years. There’s no one to compare with him.”
Pelé passed away on 29 December 2022, at the age of 82, due to multiple organ failure, a complication of colon cancer. He was survived by his 100-year-old mother, Celeste.
Meat Loaf
The singer and actor, real name Michael Lee Aday, sold more than 100 million albums worldwide throughout his career as well as starring in movies including Fight Club, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Spiceworld, Wayne’s World and The 51st State.
Meat Loaf’s musical hits included Dead Ringer For Love, Paradise By The Dashboard Lights, Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad and I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That), but the song he’ll be most remembered for is Bat Out Of Hell, released in 1977. The album is still one of the biggest sellers of all time.
Meat Loaf passed away at the age of 74 after struggling for years with health issues including asthma.
