The spooky season has officially arrived and with it beginning to get dark early and the wind chill continues to lower, we prepare for our sinister celebrations as we look at 10 of the scariest Halloween movies ever made that will have you looking for the nearest cushion in no time at all.
10: The Exorcist – 1973
This horror classic became the highest-grossing R-rated horror film ever when it was released in 1973. The film is an adaptation of a novel by William Friedkin about a child who is possessed by a demon and show bizarre and disturbing behaviour, with the child’s mother calling on not one but two priests to banish the demon. The film drew some controversy as reports claimed that many watching in cinema suffered from nausea and fainting when watching. However, it cannot be doubted that this dramatic, fast-paced horror does provide a chilling feeling in your body whenever you watch it. And it did a lot to promote Mike Oldfield’s album Tubular Bells which was used on the soundtrack.
