08. Ellen DeGeneres
The top comedienne and talk show host has often used her platform to draw attention to animal welfare issues, particularly supporting shelter animals that need homes via Ellen’s Pet Initiative. She’s also a supporter of The Gentle Barn, which rescues and rehabilitates farm animals in need of help, and Portia De Rossi endowed a campus with her name on it at the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, aiming to continue Dian Fossey’s work to protect and study endangered mountain gorillas. Ellen says: “Gorillas are amazing animals. I found out that gorillas and humans share 98 percent of the same DNA. But the thing that’s most amazing about gorillas is how compassionate they are. And here’s the sad part. They’re one of the most endangered animals in the world.”

07. The Queen
Of course she’s well-known as a keeper of Pembroke Welsh Corgis, of which she has had over 30 during her reign. But the Queen has also kept dorgis, dachshund-corgi crossbreeds. More to the point the Queen is also patron of over 30 animal charities, including the Labrador Retriever Club, Red Poll Cattle Society, Royal Pigeon Racing Association, and of course the RSPCA, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, founded in 1824, a tradition carried on from their first royal supporter, Queen Victoria.
