Gluten intolerance is a growing dietary problem, but what causes it and how can we vary our eating habits to cope with it? We asked the experts from FREEE
What is gluten and where is it found?
Gluten is a name for the proteins that are found in wheat, barley and rye.
Why are some people unable to eat gluten?
Some people have instructions within their genetic makeup that cause their body to react to gluten.
With those suffering from Coeliac Disease, the immune system attacks its own tissues when gluten is detected.
What are the symptoms of gluten intolerance?
Eating foods that contain gluten can trigger a range of gut symptoms such as IBS, stomach aches, bloating, indigestion and constipation. Coeliac disease can also cause more general symptoms including tiredness and unintentional weight loss.
What is Coeliac Disease?
Coeliac Disease is an illness in which the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues when you eat gluten. This causes damage to the lining of the gut and means the body can’t properly absorb nutrients from food. Coeliac Disease is not an allergy or food intolerance.*

What is the story behind FREEE?
In 1978, Clare Marriage and her husband first began milling flour. Around this time, Clare’s mother was advised to follow a gluten-free diet, and limited gluten free products existed, so Clare decided to use her love for baking to experiment with naturally gluten-free flours and grains to create delicious gluten-free bakes.
Over time, Clare continued to develop her recipes and eventually created her first gluten-free flour blend.
Today, FREEE is the UK’s number 1 gluten-free flour brand and offers a product range including flour, baking essentials, cereals, pasta and more.
All FREEE products are subject to rigorous testing and are produced in dedicated gluten- and nut-free production facilities, certified by Coeliac UK.*
